The season begins with “Gimme That Ole’ Time Religion”, a cherished SDCC tradition that brings together choirs from across the metroplex to honor the deep spiritual roots of the Black church. Through the lining out of hymns, traditional gospel, and spirituals, this performance serves as a living tribute to the musical legacy that has sustained and uplifted Black communities for centuries.

Our Winter Concert, presented in collaboration with the Dallas Project Seventh Day Adventists, offers a breathtaking fusion of tradition and innovation. This program will weave together excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and Quincy Jones’ Soulful Messiah, blending the grandeur of classical choral music with the electrifying rhythms and harmonies of gospel. This musical dialogue between past and present will highlight the enduring power of faith and the resilience of our community.

The Season Finale Concert will be the crown jewel of our anniversary season, featuring SDCC alongside a full orchestra in a breathtaking performance that encapsulates our journey, versatility, and vision for the future. This concert will highlight the choir’s ability to navigate an expansive repertoire from spirituals and choral anthems to jazz and gospel, showcasing the artistry and range that have defined SDCC for four decades.
A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of a commissioned work by Dr. Clark Joseph, a piece that embodies the struggles, triumphs, and resilience of SDCC. This original composition will join the voices of our past and present, ensuring that our legacy continues to resonate for years to come. The program will also feature works by legendary composers, including founding director James A. Spaights, Stacey Gibbs, the late Michael Terrell, and Lena McLin, among others, reinforcing our commitment to honoring and advancing the contributions of Black composers.
